Network engineers are in high demand. Companies are investing in newer, faster technology and mobile networks every day, increasing the need for highly trained network engineers. The number of network professionals in Australia is predicted to grow by 26%. That means that, by 2024, there will be 11,100 more people working in networking jobs than there were in 2019. A career in Network attracts higher than average earnings, the most common annual salary in AUS for a Network Engineer is between $100k and $120k.

Earning an industry recognised certification such as CCNA will get your foot in the door. But it’s not enough. Learning on-the-job IT skills are critical to becoming a network engineer. Our Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Internship Program is a perfect way to jump straight into your career Networking! We work closely with universities and our industry partners to help students discover their pathway into the workforce through work experience and industry certification.


Opportunity

This 13-week Networking internship program is a combination of pre-placement training and hands-on work experience. We work closely with our industry partners to identify recruitment needs so that we can devise a work integrated training curriculum to fill these gaps. Through our internship programs, students are able to spend time within our partner organisations, learning best practices, specific skills and tools, as well as assimilating to company culture.

Placement Details

Internship Host Company – Westcon-Comstor

Westcon-Comstor is a global technology distributor with worldwide capabilities in Cloud, Global Deployment and Services, and category-leading Security, Unified Communications and Collaboration, Networking and Data Center technology Practices. With teams in 110 offices in 70-plus countries across six continents, Westcon-Comstor provides services to more than 170 countries. 

Internship Responsibilities/Duties

You will be working as part of the team at the company’s integration centre. Westcon- Comstor’s Integration team works to ensure that partners are satisfied and protected during system setup, testing and basic configurations for installations. Some of your responsibilities include: 

• Install various 4 slots and 8 slot modules, Power-of-Ethernet power supply, single-wide service module to new Cisco routers. 

• Carry out order tracking duties and necessary troubleshooting for all networking equipment to guarantee best working conditions before prompt deliveries. 

• Provide memory upgrades to improve capacity of computerised network. Pre-building and installing firmware as per customers’ requirements. 

• Testing and erasing configurations on refurbished products. Staging and configuring of networking technology deployment. 

Requirements

To qualify for our internship program, you are expected to have basic Networking knowledge. You may be required to complete CCNA Routing & Switching and CCNA Security training as part of the program (course fee applies). 

Internship Structure

Duration: 13 weeks 

Wk Schedule Description Location

1-3 2 days/week CCNA Training ITIC - Sydney CBD or Online

4-7 2-3 days/week Case studies & project work ITIC - Sydney CBD or Online

8-13 2-3 days/week Internship at Westcon Westcon Group, Sydney
